I was in the shower this morning and this illustration came to mind:
Many a marriage has started like a little boy and his ball and bat.
At first, the little boy is super excited because he can pick the ball up and swing his bat at it. If he misses, he can just swing his bat at the ball again until….EUREKA! He hits the ball out of the park.
This goes on for some time….until it gets old.
For many, the “ball and bat” experience has transformed into a “ball and chain” experience.
The honeymoon is over and real life sets in. You are in this for the rest of your life! Having a “ball and bat” experience is great and can be a wonderful time for you and your spouse.
However, if you have a ball and chain experience, it can be hell on earth!
I have heard confessions of too many that marriage is not all it’s cracked up to be. I agree. If you both are not willing to work at it or if you picked the wrong one you can look forward to a “ball and chain” experience. Thank God, that it doesn’t have to be that way. I believe that the majority of married folks reading this are probably having the time of their lives and allowing the Lord to just lead them into more and more enjoyment with Him and each other. May I encourage you to keep on going and enjoy your spouse continually!
God bless you all!
